Joomla – AI-Powered Image Alt Text Generator Automatically generate alt text for your Joomla site images using advanced AI. AutoAlt.ai analyzes your content and images to create accurate, SEO-friendly Alt Text Improving accessibility and boosting your search rankings with minimal effort.

Installation

You can install the extension directly from our website Download.

  1. Go to System → Extensions → Install from web.
  2. In the Search box, type AutoAlt and Click on Plugin
  3. Click on Install button & Activate it

Setup

Connect your AutoAlt.ai plugin to your account using a secure API Key. Follow these steps:

  1. Visit https://autoalt.ai to sign up for a free trial or choose a paid plan.
  2. Enter the Domain you want to use for generating Auto Alt Text.
  3. Copy your API key from your AutoAlt.ai account.
  4. Go to the plugin’s Settings page in Joomla and paste the API key to link your account.
  5. Upload an image – the plugin will automatically generate alt text for it.

Note

The inserted Domain must match the API key. If they don’t, you’ll see the error: “Domain and key mismatch.” Please ensure both values are correct.

When Images are Uploading

If the “Auto-Generate on Image Upload” checkbox is enabled, AutoAlt.ai will automatically generate alt text every time you upload an image to Joomla (e.g., in Articles, Banners, or Categories).

If the checkbox is disabled, AutoAlt.ai will not run automatically. Instead, you can manually generate alt text by clicking the “Generate Alt Text – AutoAlt.ai” button when editing an image. This gives you more control if you prefer to decide which images should have AI-generated alt text.

Note

This option is Checked by default. If unchecked, automatic alt text generation for new images will be stopped.

Generate Alt Text on Article Page

Click the “Generate Alt Text – AutoAlt.ai” button to instantly create AI-powered alt text for your uploaded image.

Generate Alt Text on Category Page

Click “Generate Alt Text – AutoAlt.ai” on the Category page to automatically create AI-powered alt text for category images.

Filter by Image Extension

The “Filter by Image Extension” feature helps you manage credits efficiently. For example, if you upload images in JPG or PNG format, but your website automatically converts them to WebP for performance optimization, it’s recommended to filter and select only the WebP format during processing. This ensures that credits are used only for the final images actually displayed on your site.

Include Prefix & Post Fix for SEO

Add custom prefix or postfix keywords to your generated alt text to improve SEO relevance and branding.

Do I need to configure anything after installation?

Yes. After installation, go to System → Plugins → AutoAlt and enable it. In the plugin settings, you need to enter your API key from AutoAlt.ai. You can also configure options such as language, customize GPT prompts for your brand voice, and set multilingual options if your Joomla site supports multiple languages.

  • You can cancel at any time without losing your unused credits.
What happens if I cancel my subscription?

When you cancel:

  • Your subscription stops renewing automatically.
  • You won’t be charged further.
  • Any unused credits remain in your account.
Can I use AutoAlt.ai on multiple websites?

Yes, You can add as many websites as you want to your AutoAlt.ai account. Just add each domain to your account. As long as you have credits available, you can generate alt text across all sites.
