AutoAlt.ai automatically generates ALT text for images uploaded in TYPO3. It helps keep your website SEO-friendly and accessible while reducing the time spent managing image metadata manually.

Install via TYPO3 Extension Repository (TER)

1. Log in to your TYPO3 backend.
2. Navigate to Admin Tools → Extensions.
3. Search for AutoAlt.ai – AI Alt Text Generator.
4. Click Install and activate the extension.

Composer Installation

Install the extension using Composer:

Then activate the extension:

The AutoAlt.ai extension for TYPO3 works seamlessly in the background, automatically generating ALT text for newly uploaded images across your website. It can also incorporate relevant SEO keywords to improve search visibility while ensuring your content remains accessible and compliant with accessibility standards.

To customize how the extension behaves, navigate to the AutoAlt.ai settings module within your TYPO3 backend. From there, you can configure languages, SEO keywords, automation preferences, and other image optimization settings to match your website’s needs.

The AutoAlt.ai Account Connection section allows TYPO3 administrators to connect their website directly with AutoAlt.ai. A valid connection is required before ALT text can be generated automatically or in bulk for your images.

If you already have an AutoAlt.ai account, you can quickly connect your TYPO3 website by entering your existing API key in the Connect API Key section. Once saved, the extension will use your AutoAlt.ai account and available credits for ALT text generation.

If you do not have an AutoAlt.ai account yet, you can use the Login / Register option. Simply enter your email address and request a verification code (OTP). After entering the OTP, your account will be automatically created or logged in, and your API key will be securely retrieved and saved within the TYPO3 extension.

This streamlined setup eliminates the need for manual API key management and helps you start generating ALT text within minutes.

Option 1: Connect with Existing API Key

1. Go to Catalog → Settings in your TYPO3 backend.
2. In the Connect API Key section, enter your AutoAlt.ai API key.
3. Click Connect & Save.
4. Your TYPO3 website will now be connected to AutoAlt.ai.

Option 2: Login / Register with Email

1. Go to Catalog → Settings in your TYPO3 backend.
2. In the Login / Register section, enter your email Address.
3. Click Send Verification Code.
4. Enter the OTP received in your email.
5. Your AutoAlt.ai account will be automatically created or logged in.
6. The API key will be automatically saved in the extension configuration.

Notes

• A valid AutoAlt.ai connection is required before generating ALT text.
• If an API key is already configured, you do not need to log in again.
• Your API key is stored securely within the TYPO3 extension settings.
• Available credits are displayed after a successful connection.
• If you switch to a different AutoAlt.ai account, simply update the API key in the settings.
• Both manual API key connection and OTP-based login are supported.
• Once connected, the extension can generate ALT text automatically for newly uploaded images and in bulk for existing media files.

The Bulk ALT Text Generator allows you to automatically create SEO-friendly and accessibility-compliant image metadata across your TYPO3 media library. The tool scans all available images and identifies files with missing or incomplete ALT text, helping you improve website accessibility and search engine visibility with minimal effort.

You can choose how each metadata field should be handled, including ALT Text, Title, and Description. Add optional SEO keywords to guide AI-generated content, define negative keywords to exclude unwanted terms, and control whether existing metadata should be overwritten. Additional filters let you target only images with short ALT text or skip files that have already been processed by AutoAlt.ai.

Before generation begins, the extension displays image statistics and available credits, allowing you to review the scope of the operation. Once started, AutoAlt.ai processes the selected images in bulk and automatically updates the TYPO3 media records with optimized metadata.

The Bulk Rename Images tool helps maintain a clean, organized, and SEO-friendly media library by identifying images with poor or non-descriptive filenames and renaming them automatically using AI. Instead of generic names such as image-1234.jpg or IMG_5678.png, AutoAlt.ai generates meaningful filenames based on the image content, improving media organization and search engine optimization.

The page provides a complete filename audit, showing images that need attention, previously renamed files, and available credits. Administrators can rename images individually, process multiple images in bulk, or manually customize filenames when needed. Every rename action is recorded in the Rename History, allowing changes to be reviewed and reverted using the built-in Undo feature. This ensures safe, controlled file management while keeping your TYPO3 media library consistent and optimized.

The ALT Text Generation History page provides a complete audit trail of all AI-generated image metadata created by AutoAlt.ai. It allows administrators to review generated ALT text, titles, and descriptions, monitor generation results, and track processing activity across both bulk operations and automatic image uploads.

Each history entry displays the image, generation date, language, processing source, and status, making it easy to verify content quality and identify any failed generations. Built-in filtering options help you quickly search records by filename, language, status, or generation source. Administrators can also edit generated content directly from the history view or retry failed requests when needed.

This centralized history ensures full transparency, simplifies quality control, and helps maintain accurate, SEO-friendly, and accessibility-compliant image metadata throughout your TYPO3 media library.

The Update ALT Text from History feature allows administrators to review and modify previously generated AI content directly from the Generation History page. If a generated ALT text, title, or description requires refinement, you can edit the content manually and save the updated version without regenerating it.

The dashboard displays the total number of detected short ALT text images, helping you quickly identify optimization opportunities. This targeted approach saves credits, improves accessibility compliance, and ensures higher-quality, more descriptive ALT text across your TYPO3 media library.

The Field Actions section gives you full control over how AutoAlt.ai handles image metadata during bulk processing. For each field—ALT Text, Title, and Description—you can choose one of three actions:

• Generate – Create new AI-generated content for the selected field.
• Keep – Leave the existing value unchanged and skip processing for that field.
• Clear – Remove the current value from the field.

This flexible feature allows you to update only the metadata you need while preserving important existing content. For example, you can generate ALT text for accessibility, keep existing image titles, and clear outdated descriptions in a single bulk operation.
