AutoAlt.ai automatically generates ALT text for product images whenever a product is added or updated in Magento. This ensures your catalog remains SEO-friendly and accessible while reducing manual image management.

Then you can install the package using this command:

The AutoAlt.ai extension for Magento 2 is designed to work seamlessly in the background, automatically generating ALT text for any new image you upload to your products.. It can also incorporate relevant SEO keywords to enhance your store’s visibility.

To customize how the extension behaves, head to the Configuration section of the extension in your Magento admin panel.

The AutoAlt.ai Account Connection section allows administrators to connect their Magento store with AutoAlt.ai directly from the Bulk ALT Text Generator page. This setup is required before ALT text can be generated for product images.

If you already have an AutoAlt.ai account, you can quickly connect your store by entering your existing API key in the Connect API Key section. Once saved, the extension will use your connected account and available credits for ALT text generation.

If you do not have an account yet, you can use the Login / Register section. Simply enter your email address and request a verification code (OTP). After entering the OTP, your account will be automatically created or logged in, and the API key will be fetched and saved automatically in the extension.

This feature simplifies account setup, avoids manual API key handling, and helps you get started with ALT text generation faster and more conveniently.

Option 1: Connect with Existing API Key

1. Go to Catalog → Bulk Alt Text Generator.
2. In the Connect API Key section, enter your AutoAlt.ai API key.
3. Click Connect & Save.
4. Your Magento store will now be connected to AutoAlt.ai.

Option 2: Login / Register with Email

1. Go to Catalog → Bulk Alt Text Generator.
2. In the Login / Register section, enter your email Address.
3. Click Send Verification Code.
4. Enter the OTP received in your email.
5. Your AutoAlt.ai account will be automatically created or logged in.
6. The API key will be automatically saved in the extension configuration.

The extension configuration allows you to automatically generate ALT text for product images during product creation and update events. By enabling “Generate on New Product Add” and/or “Generate on Product Update,” ALT text will be created automatically based on the active store view language configuration.

The extension allows administrators to generate ALT text for multiple product images directly from the Magento product listing page. Simply select one or more products using the  checkboxes, open the Actions dropdown, and choose “Generate Alt Text – AutoAlt.ai”. The extension will automatically process the selected products and create ALT text for their images based on your configuration settings. This feature helps save time, reduces manual effort, and makes bulk image optimization much easier.

To access this page, navigate to CATALOG Bulk Alt Text Generator in the Magento admin panel.

The Bulk Alt Text Generator allows administrators to quickly create ALT text for multiple product images from a single interface. This page provides a clear overview of the total number of selected images, images without ALT text, and the currently available AutoAlt.ai credits before processing begins.

To improve output quality, administrators can optionally enter SEO keywords that should be included in the generated ALT text, as well as negative keywords that should be avoided. Additional controls allow users to decide whether existing ALT text should be overwritten and whether previously processed images should be skipped.

Once the desired options are selected, the extension generates ALT text for all chosen images in bulk with one click. This feature helps save time, reduces repetitive manual work, and gives store owners greater control over image optimization for SEO and accessibility across their Magento catalog.

The ALT Text Processing History page provides a complete record of all ALT text generated through the AutoAlt.ai extension in Magento. This feature helps administrators review, track, and manage generated ALT text across products, store views, and languages from a single centralized interface.

Each history entry includes useful details such as the product name, image preview, generated ALT text, language, processing date and time, and store view where the ALT text was created. This makes it easy to monitor which images have already been processed and verify the generated content for different store views or multilingual storefronts.

The history page also allows administrators to manually update the generated ALT text directly from the listing without needing to open each product individually. This saves time and provides more flexibility when reviewing or refining image descriptions.

With built-in filtering and organized records, the ALT Text Processing History feature improves visibility, simplifies content management, and gives store owners better control over SEO and accessibility updates. It is especially useful for stores managing large product catalogs and multilingual ALT text generation workflows.

The Update ALT Text from History feature allows administrators to quickly edit and update generated ALT text directly from the ALT Text Processing History page. Instead of navigating to individual product edit pages, users can review and modify ALT text inline for each processed image, making the workflow faster and more efficient.

Each record displays the generated ALT text along with an Update Alt Text button. By clicking this button, administrators can instantly save changes to the ALT text for that specific product image. This is especially useful for refining AI- generated descriptions, correcting inaccuracies, or aligning the content with brand guidelines and SEO strategies.

This feature provides greater flexibility and control over image optimization by allowing quick adjustments without interrupting the workflow. It is particularly beneficial for stores with large product catalogs or multilingual setups, where frequent updates may be required.

By enabling real-time edits directly from the history grid, this functionality helps maintain high-quality, accurate, and SEO-friendly ALT text while significantly reducing manual effort and time spent on product-level updates.

The Filter by Image Extension option allows you to control which image formats are included during ALT text generation. By selecting specific file types (such as JPG, PNG, WebP, or others), the extension will process only those image formats.

This feature is especially useful for optimizing credit usage. For example, if your store uploads images in JPG or PNG format but automatically converts them to WebP for frontend performance, you can choose to process only WebP images. This ensures that ALT text is generated only for the final images displayed on your website.

Leaving this field empty will include all supported image formats in the generation process. This flexibility helps improve efficiency, avoid duplicate processing, and make better use of available AutoAlt.ai credits.

This setting ensures that ALT text is generated only for languages assigned to active store views in Magento.

When enabled, AutoAlt.ai will skip inactive or unused store views and generate ALT text only for the store views that are currently active in your storefront. This helps ensure that ALT text is created only where it is actually needed.

Why use this setting?

• Prevents unnecessary ALT text generation for inactive store views
• Avoids generating content for unused store languages
• Helps save AutoAlt.ai credits
• Keeps product image ALT text clean, relevant, and store-specific

If this option is set to No, ALT text will be generated for all store views, including inactive ones. This setting is especially useful for multilingual Magento stores that want better control over ALT text generation and credit usage.

The Prefix and Suffix for ALT Text settings allow you to customize the generated ALT text by automatically adding predefined text before or after each generated description. This is useful for maintaining consistent branding, adding product context, or including important keywords across all product images.

For example, you can add your brand name as a prefix or include additional descriptive terms as a suffix to enhance SEO and clarity. These fields are optional and can be configured per store view, allowing flexibility for multilingual stores.

By using prefix and suffix values, you can standardize ALT text output, improve search engine visibility, and ensure that all generated image descriptions align with your store’s content strategy without requiring manual edits.

The Custom User Prompt setting allows you to provide additional instructions that guide how ALT text is generated for your product images. This can be used to define a preferred writing style, highlight important product details, or control the tone and structure of the generated descriptions.

It is especially useful when you want ALT text to follow specific content guidelines or branding requirements. By adding a custom prompt, you can make the generated ALT text more relevant, consistent, and better aligned with your store’s content strategy and SEO goals.

This setting controls whether existing ALT text should be replaced when a product is updated. If set to “Yes”, AutoAlt.ai will generate new ALT text and overwrite the current ALT text for product images during product updates. If set to “No”, the extension will only generate ALT text for images where the ALT text field is empty.

This option is useful for stores that want to refresh outdated image descriptions or preserve manually written ALT text while still filling in missing values automatically.

This setting enables or disables the AutoAlt.ai extension for your Magento store. By default, it is set to “Yes”. When enabled, the module can process ALT text generation based on your configured settings. If set to “No”, all automatic and manual ALT text generation features of the extension will be disabled until re-enabled.

The API Key setting connects your Magento store to your AutoAlt.ai account. By entering a valid API key, the extension can securely generate ALT text for product images and use your available credits.

This configuration is required to enable all features, including automatic ALT text generation, bulk processing, and history tracking. The API key can be set per store view, making it suitable for multi-store setups. Without a valid API key, ALT text generation will not function.

The SEO Keywords and Negative Keywords settings allow you to control how ALT text is generated for your product images. You can include specific keywords to improve SEO and ensure important terms are reflected in the ALT text. At the same time, negative keywords help exclude unwanted words or phrases.

This feature helps generate more relevant, optimized, and brand-aligned ALT text, improving search visibility while maintaining content quality and consistency across your Magento store.
